A DIFFERENT SORT OF BOARD MEETING

Board meetings are normally held in fairly anonymous office blocks, but an offer by our Treasurer to "have the meeting at my place - we can play afterwards" seemed too good to miss! Note the two non-Board members - Kay Thompson and Robert-the-Dog.

"You can have Fish & Chips for lunch"..............

and after the serious business of planning next year's National Garden Railway Show was disposed of, we got down to some serious running on Phil's extensive line, which starts "out the front", runs under the fence and through the station area (with the dreaded 3 way turnouts)........

........ up to the other end of the garden, where an extension is in progress. The loop in the foreground merely allows you to go back to where you started from and will be replaced with something a little less temporary in due course.

Tim Roy (I/C Publicity - in the foreground) had no problems with his Leek & Manifold loco (or stock - take a good look at hisTransporter Wagon and see how he holds his Gauge 3 open wagon in place on it!)

However, Hon Chairman had some difficulty in getting his coal-fired SAR Garratt to steam.................

"It DOES work, honestly!"

..... and it did eventually, making a fine sight on Phil's long bridge

........... hauling a rake of SAR opens. There were, however, mitigating circumstances - there was a steam leak at the forward lubricator which inhibited performance more than somewhat.

The Company Secretary had brought a loco and stock all the way from Devon.................

........... with a wagon that re-defines "skip wagon"!

It was, however capable of hauling more than the one...........

Membership Secretary Kev Steele hasn't really got to grips with steam yet, so Phil let him have a go with his Lady Anne.

Phil's own contrbution was this Plymlimon & Hafan train.

My own contribution was my Jack and a rake of freight stock...............

.... and we ended up with Nigel going for something as different from his coal-fired Garratt as chalk is from cheese - a Wrightscale "Excelsior" (Bagnall wing tank).........

.......... which performed impeccably to finish off the day.
My thanks to Ian Shields for some of the pictures.
