MARTIN SMITH'S |
For the first time, the MDLR showed off its Darjeeling train: unfortunately, a coupling problem (not easily solved on the day) meant the first coach couldn't operate in service. The train (appropriately enough) on one of the spirals. ............. and going under the same bridge. It was a wild and windy day - umbrellas were in evidence.............. ........... as was warm clothing. However, Mrs Smith was on hand with hot drinks, burgers and sausages - most welcome! Our host got out his DR railbus....................... ............... which is a comprehensively (and I MEAN comprehensively) re-engineered LGB product, with a new, regauged chassis because none of the LGB bits would fit in a 32mm gauge chassis He's also got this delightful Wickham railcar. A Lady Anne on a passenger service............... ............... and a W&L loco on a distinctly agrigcultural train! As always, there was much conversation in the steamimg bays. Our host has made his interlocked points and signals much easier to operate by colour-coding the points and signals - at least he spared us the single line staffs! A rather nice Works Train................... ............. and a loco built for Kent Garden Rail and owned by a new member. Our host ended the day with an interesting freight - note the bubble car and mattching caravan immediately behind the loco...................... ............... and the Scillies rowing skiff - a lucky find from a holiday. |
