WINTER 2008 AT IAN SHIELDS

Ian kindly invited us all for a post-Christmas steam-up. It was BLOODY cold!

The Acton's GVT Baldwin performed well, once it had got warmed up..........

........... as did the MDLR's Millie, "LADY SYBIL"..............

........ pictured here passing the Miniature Christmas Tree Rally (Ian Shields)

There were hot drinks, hot soup and hot dogs, dispensed by The Kitchen Crew (and Sandra)............

.............. and eagerly wolfed down by all of us!

Nevertheless, there was a fair amount of action outside........... (Ian Shields)

........ with a good number of members............. (Ian Shields)

........ running their stuff.

In fact, at times the sidings and loops got VERY congested........... (Ian Shields)

...... more so than in the summer! (Ian Shields)

This loco was making its first run anywhere............

.................. and ended up helping Roger's extremely ancient "Dylan" out - not the only loco struggling for steam in temperatures that never got above freezing point,

It's a wonder Ian's "Naughty Gnome" didn't have a blue bottom!

This Russell was the first prize in last year's Association Draw - look at it and weep!

Ravenshead's answer to Michelin Man??

The Acton's non-Accucraft Baldwin in fine fettle.

A pair of Edward Thomas's in Ian's workshop - one his, one Steve Acton's,

"Here you are Son - it's your loco - you drive it!"

The meths-fired Lady Anne bustles through Ashfields.

Ian's "Edward Thomas" on a passenger train..................

......... again...............

......... and The Chairman's L&B train in full cry (when it wasn't knocking the pins out of the point mechanisms with its cowcatcher).

A study in concentration from Chairman Nigel.

A meths-fired Lady Anne passes the Christmas trees - no trouble raising steam with THIS loco!

It's Edward Thomas again!

A nice lineside action shot of Nigel's Lew.

Now then, I wonder which loco THIS might be??

Another contortion from one of the three lineside photographers............

Towards the end of the afternoon, we all stood around and watched the few trains left running..................

That Russell with a couple of coahes.

Steve Acton's Baldwin.............. (Ian Shields)

......... and again. (Ian Shields)

It was nice to see Roger Coleman out & about after his recent illness.Ian Shields)

A Roundhouse Argyle, caught head-on. (Ian Shields)

Brian: "That's not a bad shot!"
Ian: "Neither is this!" (Ian Shields)

"Model Railroading is FUN!" (Walther's catalogue) (Ian Shields)

Exe (Ian Shields)

Russell gets a "Line Clear" from the signalman at Ashfields (Ian Shields)

Steve's Baldwin........... (Ian Shields)

........... and again (Ian Shields)

and finally.............. (Ian Shields)

......... three pictures................ (Ian Shields)

........ of THAT loco, of which Ian is inordinantly proud (and rightly so) (Ian Shields)
